Furry Friends Fur-Ever Adoption Stories
Miyuki and Ann Tavolieri : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“Ironically, when I visited Furry Friends, I was looking for an adorable little white male kitty with blue eyes because I’ve always wanted one,” Ann admits. “But when I went into one of the rooms to see Miyuki, she was in the far back of her cage, curled into a ball.
Kiki and the Jacksons : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“When we adopted Kiki, her original name was Lovey,” says Garrett. “Although it was both accurate and appropriate, our children love Kiki’s Delivery Service, so that meant an immediate name change! She now goes by Keeks, Kooky-Dooks and Kookly-Dookly -- all of which are equally acceptable to her.
Smudge and Samantha and Bethe Scalettar and James Abney : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“James and I recently lost our beloved tuxedo and we dearly wanted to help other tuxedos,” Bethe says. “We also have a soft spot for special needs kitties, and Smudge suffers from compromised vision.
Tali and the Allers : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Tali, formerly Talia, is our second adopted cat,” says Chad. “While we thought that Talia was a very pretty name, we wanted to shorten it a bit and reference a popular media character we like (Tali from the “Mass Effect” video game series).
Harry and Mickey and Tom W. : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I adopted Harry from Furry Friends in April, shortly after my best friend and ‘adventure’ kitty, Lucky, passed away,” Tom says. “Harry was one year old and the purr-fect kitty for me.
“He came with his name, which I kept, because my dad was named Harry, and it held a very special meaning for me. Harry loves being close to me at all times: lying in a chair in my home office while I work, perching on the window seat in the breakfast nook next to my chair and curling up on my bed at night.
Ollie and the Raitanos : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Ollie, formerly Oliver, isn’t our first kitty,” says Janet. “My husband Rich and I have had several cats because I can’t go through life without having one or two. When we lose one, we get another to fill the void.
Fisch and the Simeones : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Fisch (formerly Clawford) caught my eye in surgery clinic because he was meowing so loudly,” says Michelle. “My ‘mommy’ instincts kicked in and I couldn’t ignore him, so I took him out of his kennel and held him tightly against my chest. This comforted him and calmed him down.
Lucie and Justin Gravett : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I chose to adopt Lucie because she seemed so very sweet and especially energetic,” Justin says. “Plus I absolutely LOVED her coloring!
“Not surprisingly, her adjustment to living in my home was fairly immediate. Lucie is as sweet as I thought she was and a complete doll. Although she wakes me up every morning at 5:30 AM, I don’t mind it one bit. What I love most about her, though, is that she loves cuddling in laps!
Charlie and the Boyds : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I’ve had kitties most of my life,” says Mila. “My husband Chris and I even adopted our sweet Isabel, who’s now 16 years old from Furry Friends many years ago.
“When we lost our kitty, Willis, to cancer, we knew it was time to add another kitkat to the family. Since Isabel is older and our dog Georgia is 8, we figured that all of us would adapt best to a kitten. We were also looking for an especially fluffy one. Enter 5-month-old Haddy, whose name we changed to Charlie and which fits her perfectly!
Neko and Nola and Theresa Thomas : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Awhile back, I adopted Morty, a magnificent Ginger,” Theresa says. “He was clearly lonely and in need of a playmate since my two older, 13-year-old ‘ladies’ whom I adopted when I lived in Miami, would have nothing to do with him.
Toby and the Allens : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“My husband and I hadn’t had a cat for over a decade and didn’t want one because we’re older and we worried that any pet would likely outlive us,” says Terry. “But when a kitten showed up at our door one cold December evening, he was brave enough to come inside after staring through the open door for 20 minutes.
Nala and the Ross Ryans : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Last summer, we lost both of our longtime pets within a few months of each other,” says Mary. “It was a very difficult time for our household. Since we were building a new home in another state and selling the one here, we decided to wait until the ‘dust settled’ before adopting again.
Matilda and the Buchcos : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“In March of 2025, our lives changed completely for the better when we adopted Matilda, formerly Coraline, from Furry Friends!” exclaims one very excited Mara.
Pebbles and Toast and Yvette Elrod : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
Pebbles and Toast and Yvette Elrod
“We kept the kitties’ names because there’s a backstory,” Yvette explains. “I collect Flintstone and Bugs Bunny paraphernalia and I’m also a sugar cereal fiend. When we sadly lost our best kitty Max, in January, it left a hole in our hearts that needed to be filled again.
“Pebbles is a pretty calico with gorgeous green eyes, plenty of ‘attitude,’ and of course, her name suits me perfectly. Toast, her brother, who, by his appearance is a tabby Siamese, with bright blue crossed eyes, matches the name on the breakfast cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and is both a big talker and a mischief maker.
Dolly and Winnie and Stephanie Leeper : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I’ve had many kitties in my life,” says Stephanie. “When I lost Bella, my 17-year-old kitty, I was kitty-less for the first time.
“I wanted a bonded pair of older cats because I know bonded pairs can be harder to place, and I wanted each one to have a kitty companion. When I met the girls, then named Fish and Chips, at Woodinu, I wasn’t in a position to take them home that day. And yet, the next day I put in my adoption application and the rest is history!
Shimi and the Boyls : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“It took Shimi well over a month to adjust to Leo, our 13-year-old, three-legged yellow tabby. Your behaviorist was most helpful in providing us with some much-appreciated advice, while a close friend of mine loaned us a kitty ‘tent’ to safely separate them. Now they hang out ever so happily together! Shimi, who has an enormous amount of energy, loves her toys and loves watching TV – particularly if the programs involve birds.

Zee, Giles and Travis Giobbi and Kris Zickert : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“We’ve both had cats all of our lives, but it’s been 5 years since our last ones,” says Travis. “Zee, a grey tabby, and Giles, a tuxedo originally named Houdini, are the first bonded pair we’ve adopted. Found on the streets at 12 weeks of age, I believe they went to Furry Friends or a foster right away.
Obie and the Slaters : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I’ve had kitties my whole life, but after several years without one, I felt that something was missing,” Kayla says. “When I met Obie (it was as though I had wandered into a magic potion shop and there he was), I immediately knew that it was meant to be, that he was the one. So I brought him home.
Saorise and Melissa Reynolds : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“In December 2024, I unfortunately lost my 7-year-old cat, Walter, to renal failure. After grieving his loss for a few months, I felt ready to adopt again because 9-year-old Mr. Kitty, my other cat, and I were ready for a new friend. I began scouring the Furry Friends website for a new companion, but because nothing clicked, I decided to go an adoption event at PetSmart in East Vancouver. When I arrived, all of the kittens had already been adopted and there were only two black and white adult cats left. One of the volunteers introduced me to Saorise, a sweet one- year-old. She was understandably anxious, so it was difficult to get a feel for her personality. But since I had room in my heart for another friend, I adopted her.
