Charlie and the Boyds : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I’ve had kitties most of my life,” says Mila. “My husband Chris and I even adopted our sweet Isabel, who’s now 16 years old from Furry Friends many years ago.
“When we lost our kitty, Willis, to cancer, we knew it was time to add another kitkat to the family. Since Isabel is older and our dog Georgia is 8, we figured that all of us would adapt best to a kitten. We were also looking for an especially fluffy one. Enter 5-month-old Haddy, whose name we changed to Charlie and which fits her perfectly!
“Her adjustment to our home was VERY gradual. Because she had come from a feral litter and was extremely shy, we were grateful for the information about shy kittens provided to us by Furry Friends. Our first shy one, Charlie’s come out of her shell in her own time and on her own terms. But, with patience and kindness, she’s now comfortable here, secure in the knowledge that she’s permanently home, and is not only playful, she’s an absolute character and hilarious to boot!
“She’s pure entertainment. She loves to talk and chirp, scurry and sprint (her two favorite speeds), and is a high-alert kind of character. Although Charlie’s both respectful of and cautious around Isabel and Georgia, they’re all comfortable together, with a ‘pecking order’ firmly in place.
“She loves playing with a small bee on a string, mice toys and small, fluffy balls. She also loves sitting near the window and chatting at everything she sees outside. And while she enjoys affection, it’s only in spaces that she deems to be ‘safe.’ She’ll sprint to these spaces and DEMAND pets! We can sometimes pick her up and hold her, but only in these particular spaces. And although she hasn’t yet been confident enough to roam the entire house, she loves exploring the few rooms she likes.
“To say Charlie’s the quirkiest kitty we’ve ever had is an understatement! She’s chatty but shy. She’s demanding but sprints away -- never walks -- constantly or runs sideways. She loves belly rubs. She’s always stretched out lying on her back. She loves to eat while you pet her (it may be soothing for her). She’s just the best weirdo!
“Her sleeping arrangements change at night. Sometimes she sleeps on the bed, but there are other unknown places that we haven’t yet figured out. Daytime naps are spent in a laundry basket tucked away in a closet.”
