Obie and the Slaters : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I’ve had kitties my whole life, but after several years without one, I felt that something was missing,” Kayla says. “When I met Obie (it was as though I had wandered into a magic potion shop and there he was), I immediately knew that it was meant to be, that he was the one. So I brought him home.
“While his original name was Baron, we changed it to Obie -- short for ‘Out of Bounds’ in disc golf. It’s also a nod to his wild little spirit and our shared love of the outdoors.
“His adjustment to living with us was a bit rocky at first. He was nervous and hid for the first two days. But even then, if we could coax him out, he would purr and melt into our hands. By day two, he grew more courageous and from that point on, he blossomed.
“Having Obie has been healing in the most beautiful way. It’s like a part of me that had been missing just clicked back into place. I feel so, so happy to finally have a kitty again. He even fits in perfectly with our dogs -- no issues at all. He’s confident, curious and keeps the peace like a little diplomat.
“Extremely enthusiastic and energetic, Obie LOVES anything that moves, from wand toys, feathers and string to shadows! Despite his playful, independent streak, he ultimately wants to be close to us. If we go anywhere in the house, he’s right at our heels. He’s also a HUGE cuddle buggle. He loves snuggles, gentle pets, and curling up next to us.
“Silly and quirky, Obie loves chirping at the squirrels, attacking our toes after we’ve showered, and saving his zoomies for 3 AM, tearing up the cat wall above our heads. And although we’ve been leash training him, he’s much happier being carried around the yard like a little prince surveying his kingdom.”
As for Obie’s sleeping arrangements? “Snuggled right up to us In bed.”
