Saorise and Melissa Reynolds : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“I had previously adopted from Furry Friends, so I knew that when the time came to adopt again, I would adopt from them,” Melissa says.

“In December 2024, I unfortunately lost my 7-year-old cat, Walter, to renal failure. After grieving his loss for a few months, I felt ready to adopt again because 9-year-old Mr. Kitty, my other cat, and I were ready for a new friend. I began scouring the Furry Friends website for a new companion, but because nothing clicked, I decided to go an adoption event at PetSmart in East Vancouver. When I arrived, all of the kittens had already been adopted and there were only two black and white adult cats left. One of the volunteers introduced me to Saorise, a sweet one- year-old. She was understandably anxious, so it was difficult to get a feel for her personality. But since I had room in my heart for another friend, I adopted her.

“Introducing her to the other animals in my household took about a month. Besides Mr. Kitty, I have Reggie, a young and rambunctious Shih Tzu. I kept Saorise in a separate room and slowly introduced her to the other two. At times, I feared she would never get along with them, but with a lot of patience and watching videos on how to introduce cats to each other, she’s now freely moving around the house.

“While Saorise is very independent, she enjoys a good snuggle every now and then. She is quite playful and enjoys playing with a fishing rod with a feather attached. For their part, Mr. Kitty tolerates her and Reggie annoys her! She loves food and enjoys sneaking food from the other animals’ dishes. At night, Saorise has taken to sleeping under my bed. If I’m not careful, she’ll swat at my toes in the morning.

“While it’s hard to lose a pet, opening your heart to another deserving pet is worth it. There are many wonderful cats out there in need of loving homes. Saorise has brought laughter and joy into my life after a devastating loss. I enjoy seeing her personality emerge as she feels more settled in her fur-ever home.”
