Fisch and the Simeones : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“Fisch (formerly Clawford) caught my eye in surgery clinic because he was meowing so loudly,” says Michelle. “My ‘mommy’ instincts kicked in and I couldn’t ignore him, so I took him out of his kennel and held him tightly against my chest. This comforted him and calmed him down.

“He was the most beautiful kitten, with piercing eyes and gorgeous markings. He was also a ball of fluff, which made him even cuter. I tried and failed to resist him, even calling Jen Hutchman (hoping she wouldn’t answer, lol) and told her how I felt, thinking she’d say he was spoken for or that I was crazy. Instead, she gave me the ‘homie hook-up,’ and the next thing I knew I was taking him home with me!

“Fisch, so named by my husband, is a shy, introvert, but I put him in with our foster kittens and he blossomed. He also bonded with our current cat, Ivan. Then, after the foster kittens were adopted, Fisch and Ivan truly became the best of buddies. Since Ivan’s a ‘wild child,’ Fisch’s calm reserve is a nice balance, despite the fact that Ivan is teaching my perfect little Fisch all of his bad behaviors!

“A quiet presence in our family, Fisch is extremely curious, always watching and observing. This is the first time we’ve had two cats, and we love watching Ivan and Fisch play and do funny things together, providing us with endless entertainment. Besides Ivan, Fisch enjoys our dogs, Albert and Phoebe.

“Fisch loves to play, particularly with shoelaces. I tied one to a barstool in the kitchen and he quietly plays with it by himself if we’re not around. But when we do interactive play, he loves to jump up and grab the shoelace when we dangle and wiggle it. It drives him crazy! He also loves the battery-operated ball I bought him that moves on its own. He’s also a pro wrestler: Ivan has more than met his match.

“While Fisch loves to be petted, he’s affectionate on his terms, coming and sitting by us for a snuggle. He tolerates being picked up and held, and the face he makes when we try to kiss him is hysterical. He’s so put off. Fisch is introverted but not aloof. While he’s not demanding of attention, he doesn’t like it when no one’s around, meowing as loudly as he did in the surgery clinic. We quickly call out to him, reminding him we’re here, and that makes him feel better.

“One of his silly but endearing quirks is getting up in his kitty perch, lying halfway out of it, and making a face that shows his pleasure and contentment -- like a king on his throne. King Fisch!”
