Rebecca Neuleib: Volunteer Spotlight

“I’ve been volunteering with Furry Friends for over two months now,” says Rebecca. “Shortly after putting in my application, I started working as a cat socializer at the shelter for two hours a week. 

“My favorite part about socializing with the cats is getting to know them all individually and watching as they grow more comfortable being where they are. On the other hand, my greatest challenge is either leaving or remembering my door code ... lol.

“My proudest moment was figuring out how to get Purrsephone to play with me for the first time. She’s a very spicy kitty! While I’m currently working on finding a job, I’m focusing almost entirely on my volunteering. As to why I give back in this way: volunteering is fun and I urge everyone to do it.

“One of the issues I’m particularly passionate about is the exotic pet trade. In fact, I delivered an entire presentation on it for one of my college classes. At home, I live happily with two cats, a tabby named Oz and a cow cat named Felix, and a dog named Mika.

“Just for fun: I played varsity tennis several years ago. I’ve played the trumpet for eight years, the violin for three, and have written a number of songs. I’m now in the middle of writing a cat-themed mystery/horror/romance novel.”
