Sarah Marcel: Volunteer Spotlight

“I started volunteering with Furry Friends as soon as the Milky & Coco’s Cat Café opened, “Sarah says. “I came across its ‘soft’ opening, asked about volunteering, and here I am!

“I volunteer on Saturday mornings for several hours, cleaning the litter box area, checking the cats’ food and water, and generally tidying up the place. And of course, giving some love to the cats, which, it goes without saying, is my favorite part about volunteering.

“My proudest moment to date involved a shy cat named Patter, who has since been adopted. I gave him some love, and one of the visitors there was able to give him some love as well!

“Outside of Furry Friends, I work in Child Welfare as a case aide in Portland. I help with family visits, transport children, complete paperwork and perform other case-related duties. As to why I give back: quite simply, because I want to!

“At home, I have four cats -- Lord Zuko, Azula, Bumi and Kuzon. I also have one dog named Ally, a little, black chihuahua mix.”
