JacqueLyn Lobelle: Volunteer Spotlight

“I have been volunteering with Furry Friends for about a month now,” JacqueLyn says. “At the moment, I’m only working for several hours every other week at the Milky & Coco’s Kit-Tea Café. But once the medical building opens, I’ll be helping out there as much as possible.

“My favorite part about volunteering, in general, is the sense that I’m contributing to a larger community focused on making things better for everyone. But my favorite part about volunteering with cats is the cats! There’s just something magical about them, and I’ve always loved them. While I’ve volunteered in cat rescue for years, my greatest challenge has been expanding my comfort zone to meet the needs of the cats in my care – from fostering to helping in a surgery clinic.

“My proudest moments are when I’m privileged to see a cat and a person fall in love. I once saw a little boy hold his first kitten, one I’d fostered, and the way they looked at each other in that moment will stay with me forever. Another time, I watched a woman who had recently lost her cat as she lifted a silly, orange fluff ball kitten out of the carrier I’d brought him in. I could literally see her heart begin to heal as she marveled at him. Being part of the process that culminates in this kind of happiness is truly wonderful. And that’s really why I give back.

“At home, I currently have two cats, Spica, and her adopted daughter, Theda. Just for fun: Although my main hobbies are reading and watching video games, I also love art, music, film and traveling.”
