Amara Starr: Volunteer Spotlight
“I have just started volunteering with Furry Friends,” Amanda says. “I got involved thanks to the recommendation I received from a teacher at my high school.
“I currently volunteer for two hours each week at the shelter, and my duties include cleaning, doing laundry, feeding the cats and doing an inventory for them. My favorite part of volunteering is knowing that whatever I do, large or small, has a positive effect on both the cats and my fellow volunteers. I love giving my time to help make others’ lives a bit nicer and easier.
“Outside of Furry Friends, I do work, babysit and dog sit for family and friends. As to why I give back: I give back because I learned as a little girl that the more help you give others, the more you’ll receive when you need it. And since so many people have helped me, I want to show my appreciation and be part of someone’s ‘village.’
“I’m passionate about many issues, but I’m particularly passionate about climate change, and how few years we have to assist all of the endangered animals that have suffered because of humanity.
“At home, I have six lovely cats that I adore with all my heart! Just for fun? I did gymnastics for the first 15 years of my life and I can still do the splits, handstands and various other tricks.”
