Tuna and the Seymours: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“My husband and I live together with our two sons, two dogs and one bird,” Leah says. “My 17-year-old cat, Todd, who passed away last summer, was my baby and I was devastated.
“When I went to our local PetSmart looking for bird food, I noticed that Furry Friends was hosting an adoption event there. I wasn’t sure if I was ready for another cat just yet, but the ‘cat distribution system’ found me! His name ‘Cake’ caught my eye, and he looked so cute in the picture. He was rather shy when I tried to play with him, understandably.
“And yet, when I brought him home, his adjustment to living here was pretty immediate, despite having been shy at the shelter. Although we tried to separate him from our dogs, Tuna (I LOVED his original name ‘Cake, so it took some time to re-name him) was so interested in them that within days of arriving, he started coming out to sniff them and make them his friends. Within weeks, they became a little pack. Tuna loves the dogs! He follows them everywhere and snuggles up to them. Both of them are senior dogs, so they don’t have as much energy as he does, but they try to keep up whenever Tuna attempts to wrestle with them!
“Everyone loves having Tuna in the family. He’s so affectionate, playful and sweet. Since he walks comfortably on a leash, we’re starting to gradually introduce him to sprinter van camping and adventures. We’ve had one successful day trip so far, and he loved being out in nature.
“Tuna loves paracords -- not any old paracords. Each one has to be black and it has to be a certain diameter. He likes chasing after it and jumping for it while we flail it around. As for being being petted and cuddled? Yes! He’s such an absolute snuggle bug and lover boy. He curled up by our faces the first night. Whether it’s when we take a nap or at night, he just loves snuggling everyone.
“Everything Tuna does makes me smile! Just seeing how quickly he blended into our family and loving on all of us. At night, he mostly sleeps with my husband and me, cuddled up right in the middle by our shoulders or legs. Sometimes, he might decide to sleep with our teenaged son.”
