Petey and Jasper and the Abbes: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“We moved to Clark County five years ago,” Kevin says. “We found Furry Friends shortly thereafter and they’ve been a blessing to our family ever since.
“Married to a wonderful woman named Andrea, ours is truly a multi-generational household as we are the guardians of our 16-year-old granddaughter, Desirae, and my 87-year-old mother, Patricia. Being senior citizens, we’ve had many pets over the years, including many wonderful cats. Three years ago, we reached out to Furry Friends when Desirae entered high school, feeling it was the perfect time for her to have a companion animal, and that’s how Laena became part of our loving home.
“Unfortunately, last December Laena encountered an opossum in our fenced yard and was bitten. She contracted a flesh-eating bacteria and swiftly succumbed to it, leaving all of us devastated. In March of this year, we attended a Furry Friends adoption event at PetSmart, and instead of coming home with one kitten, we came home with a bonded brother and sister pair: Petey and Jasper.
“This has not been a happy year for our family: my wife is suffering from a terminal illness and my mother, my wife and I each lost dogs of ours. I can’t begin to describe how much joy these two kittens, with their mischievous ways, haved added to all of our lives. Despite their distinctive personalities, they have adapted well to our home, running, chasing toys and, best of all, just cuddling and purring.
“They both have soft meows, love giving cat kisses, and Jasper adores being the center of everyone’s attention. The quirkiest detail about them is that they both love to flop down on the ground in front of you, and will refuse to move unless you pick them up, give them some cuddling, and then move them yourself!
“Petey and Jasper, having blended so beautifully into our home, remind us daily by their actions, that they’re truly still cats. And if you’re fortunate enough to own one, you know what I mean.
“Thank you, Furry Friends, for being there for the kittens and cats of Clark County.”
