Tigger and Devotion Rigdon: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I adopted Tigger (formerly called Hammy) in November of 2025,” Devotion says. “Several years after the passing of one of my two cats, Adventure, I started looking for a kitten to bring home as a playful companion for my remaining cat, Beast.
“After viewing various suitable ‘candidates’ (confident, fearless, playful, younger than 6 months and dog-friendly) on the Furry Friends website, I attended the adoption event at PetSmart in Orchards. My adult daughter came with me, as did my roommate and my female service dog, Dobby. My daughter looked at the kittens being placed in cubbies and exclaimed, ‘You have to get this one, he’s so playful!’ It was Hammy.
“As soon as the volunteer put Hammy down on the floor in front of Dobby, he marched up to her legs and began rubbing all over them. Then he stood up, placed his paw on Dobby’s face and started bouncing around the room. That was it. The moment we knew. I looked at my roommate, my daughter and the volunteer and said, ‘I guess we’ll take him home!’
“While his adjustment to living here with us was immediate, Beast’s adjustment to him was more gradual. (I changed Hammy’s name to Tigger because he never seems to stop bouncing everywhere and he’s always up for an adventure).Even though it took 4 months, Tigger has now won over Beast who loves him so much. She waits for him in the mornings so they can run around together and play. He can even sleep with his butt touching hers if I put him there. So close to real cuddles!
“Tigger and Dobby also run around the house together. My friend’s dog now comes over to play with Tigger instead of my dog (this suits her just fine as she likes to chill and watch them play), and my roommate and I couldn’t be more pleased. We laugh so much more now!
“Tigger loves anything and everything when it comes to toys. He loves laces, clothes that dangle, the dog’s tail, but his favorite? His sister Beast or a little fish cat toy that he throws around the house by himself. As for being petted and cuddled? Tigger simply can’t be petted and cuddled enough!
“At night, he either sleeps across the top of my head on my pillow or between the dog and me.”
