Hattie and the Hewitts: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“Our family adopted Hattie in November when she was about 3 months old and so tiny that she only weighed around 3 pounds,” Amy says. “She and her siblings were found malnourished and their whiskers had been chewed.

“We had actually gone to PetSmart to meet a different kitty who, in the end, wasn’t there. My oldest daughter picked Hattie up and she melted right into her arms. It was love at first sight! My other daughter and I each held her and unanimously decided that she was the kitten for us.

“We have two other cats and two dogs at home, and I wasn’t sure how Hattie would be welcomed. While our male cat couldn’t have cared less, our female took awhile longer to warm up. Now they all get along just fine. Hattie has her favorite spot on the cat tree to sleep, but most nights she sleeps with me along with our dog Louisa.

“Louisa and Hattie have become best friends. They not only like to cuddle on the couch together, Louisa lets Hattie lick and clean her face! I’ve never seen a dog and cat relationship quite like theirs. Hattie also likes to follow me around the house. If I’m cooking in the kitchen, she’ll be sitting near me on the rug. I have to watch my step because sometimes I don’t hear or see her, and there she is.

“When Hattie was recently diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), I wasn’t sure if she was going to make it. Fortunately, we were able to start her on medication, and she’s doing well. I can’t thank Furry Friends enough. Hattie is a fighter and an extra special kitty.”
