Snickers and Ellen : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“We adopted Snickers (formerly Willow) from Furry Friends last June, about a year after our first and much beloved cat, 17-year-old Smudge, died,” says Ellen. “Smudge was a Siamese mix and a real talker!
“I’d been trying to meet kittens at the Oregon Humane Society, but it was difficult. Whenever I’d go over, there were always two or three people who had signed up ahead of me to meet the kitten I was interested in -- and then one of them would invariably adopt that particular kitten.
“Last June, when I saw Willow on the Furry Friends website, she reminded me of Smudge, and so I submitted an application. The response from the foster parent was almost immediate. After a meet-and-greet at the foster’s house, I brought her home, changing her name to Snickers because we thought it reflected her fun personality.
“She’s a bit noise sensitive, but over time, she’s adapted very well to the urban noises of our neighborhood. When she was younger and just starting to explore the house, she had a fantastic time running up and down our stairs. In fact, she still tears down them like a rocket! She’s very high energy and loves playing with Da Bird and balls of papers. She’s not a big fan of being held, but she follows me around the house, and has become a very nice lap cat.
“Snickers sleeps right through the night, which is a plus. I think it helped that, starting from her first night with us, we established a routine of putting her in ‘her’ room at bedtime. This is the room where she spends most of her time during the day. It’s her space and where we keep her toys, food, litter box, etc.
“Although we have no other pets, I suspect Snickers has the right temperament to get along with a cat-savvy dog. Thinking about that future possibility.
“Thank you, Furry Friends!”
