Monty and Andrew Didway : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I met Monty, my new roommate, cuddlebug, ‘landlord’ and wild cat at PetSmart 5 months ago,” says Andrew. “I had recently moved and had discussed adopting a cat with my girlfriend -- although we don’t live together.
“While we were at PetSmart buying some supplies for her pets, we looked at the various cats there from Furry Friends. I grew up in a house with cats and consider myself a cat lover. (In fact, when I walk around the neighborhood, cats are constantly running over to say ‘hi’ or to get some love). Unfortunately, four of the kitties I wanted to meet and potentially adopt were only being adopted out as pairs, and the only other one that wasn’t hidden from view was Monty.
“First of all, I noticed his face. Monty has a one-of-a-kind face that stands out and makes him the cutest, most handsome cat I’ve ever seen. After meeting him, I talked it over with my girlfriend who asked the Furry Friends volunteer if they had a discount on the adoption fees for veterans. The volunteer made a phone call and told me that I could adopt Monty for free! And away we went.
“Monty swiftly made himself at home. At first, though, he was a little anxious about some of the loud noises -- banging from the upstairs neighbors and the weird noise my fridge makes when it stops running (it sounds like an early piston engine coming to a stop). But he and I bonded immediately, and he’s my constant companion when I’m home, following me to the kitchen and bathroom, and then lounging in bed with me.
“Monty is one of the most affectionate cats I’ve ever known. He always has to be touching me, whether it’s with his paws on my arms and hands or lying between my legs. He even grooms me! I ‘endure’ it for as long as I can and only stop when it feels as if he’s going to tear the skin off of my calf … lol. He’s still a cat though, and as sweet as he is, he’s not afraid to let me know what makes him grumpy: waking him up in the morning.
“I initially wanted to change his name, but I think Monty is very unique and it seems to fit him. I’m so thankful to have a little companion to hang out with and who loves me unconditionally (well, most of the time).”
