Asura and Baba Yaga and Mimi Babicz : Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“My husband and I adopted Asura (fomerly Cuddles) and Baba Yaga (formerly Oreo) from Furry Friends.” Mimi says. “Asura was chosen because she’s a beautiful Siamese while Baba Yaga was picked because he’s a BIG tiger cat. They join our three other rescue cats, Mazikeen, Salem and Lucifer, and three Dandie Dinmont terriers!

“Both cats had a gradual adjustment having been quarantined in the cat room for a short period of time. And then, they joined the rest of the animals. Asura and Baba, like their three feline siblings, LOVE playing with the countless cat toys that are scattered throughout the house, jumping into and out of empty boxes, using the climbing wall with its scratching posts and chasing after the laser’s red light. They also LOVE spending time in the window catio because it affords them a safe, enclosed access to the world outside.

“I’ve lost count of how many cat beds for ‘sunbeam sleeping’ there are around our home. When I see two cats cuddling up in one of these beds, it brings a smile to my face. It happens daily. Their ‘Cat TV’ consists of watching the various birds on the bird feeders and the rabbits eating the clover around the house. We can tell when the ‘Cat TV’ is on by the chirping sounds made by the cats.

“Believe it or not, all of the animals get along wonderfully. The cats rub against the dogs, and one cat actually thinks he’s a dog! I kept adopting cats in the hopes of getting a lap cat, and although I never did, all five cats have their own personalities, showing us love in their own way and in their own time, which we respect.

"Baba Yaga loves a bite of my breakfast (especially toast) every morning and will head butt me to thank me. He also loves to play on the cat wall while I throw toys for him to catch. Asura is my little lady who loves scratches under the chin and kisses on her face. She also loves her daily brushing sessions more than the others. All five cats sleep against our legs at night with Mazikeen under the covers with me at times. Our dogs sleep in crates at night for security so that the cats don’t startle them in their sleep when they jump up on the bed.

“Rescue cats need us. We, in turn, need them to bring us joy. When I pet my cats, I slow down and become present with them. Our animals or fur babies give us love and we are lucky to share our lives with them. My animals give me purpose. I adopted Asura and Baba Yaga from Furry Friends for two reasons: the wonderful organization it is and their dedication to saving cats in need. Adopters receive healthy cats with their medical records and some knowledge of their backgrounds.

“Thank you, Furry Friends, for my cats and thank you for existing to help save cats.”
