Sable and Tawnee Garon: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“While I’ve had cats in the past, it’s been many years since I decided to adopt one again,” says Tawnee.
“We adopted Sable at the end of August 2025 and decided to keep his name because he answers to it very well. My sister had adopted his brother a few weeks earlier, and we had fallen in love with his unique looks and loving nature. I had reached out to Furry Friends to meet Sable because I wanted an emotional support animal for my children. We had a very difficult year with the passing of my father and my divorce from their dad, and I knew they needed a friend to comfort them.
“We met Sable’s foster parent at the shelter and my oldest daughter, who was about to turn 17, instantly fell in love with him. I knew right then he was her boy! Sable took about a week to adjust because we have another cat and a dog in the home. After the first week, our other adopted kitty Meeko and Sable became best friends, and they now spend their days playing and napping together. Our rescue dog is dismissive of Sable, but we were surprised that he even accepted the cats, so we take it as a win. Best of all, the three of them occasionally play together!
“Sable is very playful and although we have all sorts of toys for him, the tiny mice and the scratching post are his favorites. He’ll also chase a string forever! He’s extremely cuddly and has the loudest purr. It's so beautiful and melts our hearts. Because he bonded instantly with my oldest daughter, he tends to sleep with her, but when she’s not home, he seeks me out and likes to sleep cuddled up on my chest.
“We tease Sable because he has such a happy-go-lucky attitude and nothing seems to bother him. He’s just so excited to be alive and loved! My daughter calls him her ‘sunshine’ and ‘bouncing baby boy.’ He has this wild long tail that’s constantly shaped like a question mark amd he bounces more like a bunny than a cat. He’s not only filled our home with joy, he’s the perfect fit for Meeko and my daughters.”
