Soot and the Sandigos: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“We’ve always had cats and my husband Nik and I currently have a senior named Shadow,” says Jackie. “When we saw the pictures of Soot on the Furry Friends website, they made him look like a little ‘cryptid,’ and Soot was a perfect name! Then, when we went to meet him at his foster home, he wasn’t particularly interested in us, and I was worried that his attitude would make him hard to adopt.

“And yet, adopt him, we did! Soot’s adjustment to living here was gradual as we slowly introduced Shadow to him. He’s not only brought a lot of joy to us, he’s taught us a lot about patience. He and Shadow play together all the time, but he runs circles around our old guy.

“He’s obsessed with his fishing rod with a wiggle worm as bait. We actually have to keep it in the laundry room otherwise he’ll drag it all over the house! An endearing blend of affectionate and independent, Soot is good with pets, but he cuddles on his own terms. He does love to go under blankets, though. We call it ‘ravioli mode.’

“What makes us smile? He gets up on his tall beds and stands on his hind legs, reaching for the sky with his front two. We say he’s casting spells. He likes hopping into boxes and is incredibly curious. When he’s really tired, he lies on his back with his little legs in the air like a bug that fell off the ceiling! When he’s done, he scratches around his bowl trying to ‘cover up’ his food.

“He’s just a goofy little guy.”
