Ragnar and the Allens : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“We recently adopted a kitten called Speedy from Furry Friends,” Mandy says, “and changed his name to Ragnar, after a beloved book character – not to mention a wonderful Viking name as well.
“He joins our 12-year-old male cat, Apollo, our female husky, Piper, and our female German shepherd, Sammy. We’re currently expecting a baby boy and are overjoyed at the thought of his growing up with little Ragnar by his side. We chose Ragnar after the loss of our beloved 15-year-old black cat, Cyrus, and because we wanted another companion for Apollo. We were especially interested in Ragnar since he came from a foster family with cats, dogs and small children, and we figured that he’d fit perfectly into ours.
“From the moment we brought him home, Ragnar has not only been sweet and loving, he’s adjusted perfectly to living with our family. He sleeps with us at night on my husband’s feet, next to Apollo, loves to snooze in the big dog bed during the day whenever he can, and has even taken to playing with Sammy, our shepherd. He’s brought us so much joy and puts a smile on my face every day. As rambunctious and playful as he is, he also enjoys snuggling and being held. He’s very clever and is eagerly learning tricks: coming when called, spinning in a circle, and giving high fives!
“Shortly after we adopted him, however, he started behaving strangely, and I noticed that he had a swollen abdomen as well as swollen lymph nodes. Our amazing veterinarian, Dr. Gottschalk, quickly diagnosed him with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), and he’s been receiving – and responding well – to the oral treatment prescribed to combat this potentially fatal disease. Fortunately, he’s back to his playful, handsome self, and is growing into a fine young cat. He had a check-up recently, and Dr. G. expects him to make a full recovery.
“We’re so grateful that Ragnar came into our lives, and we hope to love and protect him for many years to come. Thank you, Furry Friends!”
