Gertrude and the Yuills : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“When my wife Rebekah and I adopted Gertrude, she was called Dixie,” David says. “Now she goes by Gerdy and Miss Trude, and she’s filling the emptiness created when our two 19-year-old cats passed away a few years ago.

“We chose Gertrude because we wanted a female who would be happy living in a single-cat home -- not a kitten, but still young. To say that her adjustment to our home was immediate is putting it mildly. She knew from day one that she was in charge!

“There are an infinite number of reasons as to why pets, particularly cats, make people’s lives better. Needless to say, Gerdy brings a lot of joy and fun and cat-itude to ours. As for other pets, we only have an aquarium, but she certainly enjoys sitting and watching the fish.

“Definitely a hunter, she loves chasing balls, playing fetch and hunting any string toy that has feathers – the more realistic the better. Gerdy excels at entertaining herself if we leave toys scattered throughout the house. Zoomies occur daily without us. And yet, should she require our attention (she LOVES head rubs) or our active participation in her games, she’s never shy about flopping down in front of us.

“Quirky, cute and ever so endearing, Gerdy does the ‘Halloween’ cat arch with a fluffy tail when she’s especially excited about playing. She loves to chase and be chased. She’ll come over to us and ‘demand’ a pet, only to run off down the hallway. If we chase her, she’ll run up the stairs. If we don’t, she’ll come back down and attempt to entice us into chasing her again.

“As for sleeping? She has two preferred places. Her day spot is by the upstairs window overlooking the street. Then, after her midnight zoomies, she cuddles up at our feet on our bed.”
