Pumpkin and Alana Hutcherson: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“ I was going through a separation from my husband, and my son had never had a pet because his dad was allergic to cats,” Alana says. “Pumpkin was, in fact, our third foster kitty, and somehow she became ‘the one.’

“When we met her, she didn’t yet have a name. My son held her in his lap and she didn’t move. She simply stayed there, calmly and contently. He promptly declared that she was his, and he named her Pumpkin.

“She remained in the bathroom of our home for a few days. I thought it was because she was scared. But I quickly realized that she is the sweetest snuggler around! She loves being held and doesn’t even mind when my son holds her imperfectly. She is extremely gentle and especially patient with him.

“Pumpkin has brought so much joy and love into our lives. It is so nice to come home and cuddle her. She makes our new home truly feel like home. She may be tiny and not the best jumper, but she hops nimbly between the blinds and always makes it through. She follows me everywhere, including into the bathroom, and is curious about everything. She loves toys and even plays fetch like a dog. And at night, she sleeps curled up with my son and me.

“She may have started out as a foster, but precious little Pumpkin is very clearly family.”
