Nube and Marion Tanner: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I have always been passionate about cats,” says Marion. ”I have a 14-year-old cat named Kiko whom I adopted 4 years ago, and my partner and I live with two 6-year-old cat sisters named Quilla and Nyxx.

“Six months ago, when I was volunteering at the shelter, I met a 6-month-old kitten named Sally, and I felt very connected to her during our various interactions. My partner and I had been discussing adopting a young cat to bring some new, young cat energy into the house. And so we adopted her and changed her name to Nube, which means ‘cloud’ in Spanish. We call her Noobs and Snooby, and sometimes when she’s being particularly mischievous, we call her ‘the stink cloud.’

“Within a few days of bringing Nube home, she was ready to explore the house, and our other three girls were very curious about her as well. After two weeks, there was the occasional hissing and a bop on the head every now and again from the other cats, but for the most part, they were all getting used to each other. My oldest, Kiko, was the least interested in Nube, but she has also gotten very sassy in her old age.

“Adopting Nube definitely changed the dynamics of our home. She has encouraged our other cats to play more outside of our usual toy-playing time. Then, when 10 PM rolls around, all of the cats are running around the house, with Kiko sometimes joining in! The other cats have also taught Nube a thing or two about relaxing and napping.

“Nube loves to snuggle as much as she loves to play. In fact, she has learned and ‘stolen’ the other cats’ snuggle techniques. The result: they sometimes approach their favorite spot to find that she’s already there fast asleep! She also loves finding my hairclips and playing ‘chase’ with them.

“Most endearing, though, is the way Nube’s soft little meows sound like a little car going ‘beep, beep, beep,’ and how she always has her tongue sticking out!”
