Frida and Rembrandt and the Elliotts: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“My husband Templeton and I met Frida (formerly Scully) at the Furry Friends shelter and adopted her to be a companion for our adult cat,” says Kellette. “She was so sweet and so friendly. She was playful and loved getting into our laps at the shelter.

“Not only are we supremely grateful for Frida, we absolutely adore her, and she was an enormous comfort to us when our senior kitty finally passed away. Fast forward three years and I reached out to Furry Friends, asking who would make an ideal partner for Frida. They said male, three to six months, and they were right.

“We met Rembrandt (formerly Boots) at an adoption event at PetSmart. And although we originally went to adopt his brother Star, he was very timid whereas Rembrandt was outgoing and playful, and I feel that he picked us! Frida took some time adjusting to him since her older ‘brother’ had been very established in his ways and she was most respectful of his territory and space.

“Rembrandt came into the house brimming with confidence. He was like ‘this is home, this is my family, I want to meet my big sister.’ Frida showed him how to ‘be an Elliott’ for a few months, and they were soon cuddling and cleaning each other. Now that Rembrandt knows his way around, they’re best friends. They play together, sleep together, do everything together and it’s the most beautiful thing.

“Frida and Rembrandt are the sweetest cats and make us laugh all day. And since Templeton and I both work from home, we spend a lot of quality time with them. I’ve had some serious surgeries and chronic pain, and Frida has taken on the role of my nurse. Rembrandt is the comedy relief. We love them both so much and are so grateful that they’re in our lives!

“Frida loves to chase toys. She also loves bringing them to me if I’m sitting somewhere or leaving them on my pillow as a reminder to play. We have a ripple rug, and that’s her home base where she ‘announces’ that she’s ready to play. Remy, who’s fascinated by stuffed animals, runs around the house with them in his mouth, and they’re sometimes twice his size. He plays with all kinds of toys, particularly wand toys, and excels at fetch. My husband and I play with them at least every morning and night because they’re both just so happy to play.

“Frida, who’s almost four, loves to cuddle. She cuddles with me a lot and with Remy. Remy and Frida both cuddle up to my husband at night. Remy, at nine months, is still young and full of energy, and while he’s not that much of a cuddler yet, he’d gladly cuddle with his sister all day if he could.

“As to their especially endearing habits: Frida will look up at you with the sweetest eyes and meow, asking you to play with her. Everyday around 11AM, she ‘bugs’ Templeton while he’s at his desk to go ‘on a tour’ with her. She takes him to each room downstairs, meowing and looking up at him. They stop in the bathroom for some pets before she brings him back to his desk. Remy does what we call ‘Milli Vanilli,’ where he curls his head into a wall or a plant, into your face or your leg. It’s his way of saying he loves you. It’s absolutely the sweetest thing.

“Both Frida and Remy sleep with us at night, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!”
