Oliver and the Fretwells: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“My husband Adam and I have always had cats,” says Jenn, “and we lost our last one in April 2025.

“We met Oliver Franklin when we were visiting PetSmart and our female dog liked him! He allowed us to hold him and pet his belly and then he played with us. Really, I think he chose us.

“It took Oliver about a month before he started sitting with us on the couch. Now he loves cuddles and attention and won’t let anybody go to the bathroom on their own. He’s brought us joy, laughter and endless entertainment. He is definitely an adorable weirdo and we love him so much.

“To say that Oliver’s obsessed with our mini Aussie is putting it mildly. For her part, our dog ‘tolerates’ him and pretends to be best friends with him when he’s receiving too much attention and she wants some for herself! Oliver enjoys being petted and cuddled most of the time, and we’re pleased that he’s grown more affectionate as he’s gotten older.

“As active as he is affectionate, Oliver loves playing with toys that crinkle and jingle. His favorite game involves throwing his favorite toys in the water dish or throwing them under the furniture. Among his various quirky habits that make us smile: he likes to watch the water go down in the toilet bowl. He likes to sleep in the strangest positions. He likes to imitate our dog. He noticed that she gets attention when she flops down in front of our feet -- so he does that now!

“At night, Oliver sleeps in various places: in his sister’s dog bed in our bedroom, by our feet on our bed, on the chair in our bedroom, in his cat tree or on the couch in the living room.”
