Misty and Jillian Edwardson: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I adopted Misty at the beginning of 2026 since last year’s holidays and my 18th birthday were filled with grief over the sudden loss of my beloved kitty, Pumpkin,” says Jillian.

“She was my best friend who lived fulltime in my bedroom and who was diagnosed with cancer after four short years of our being together. I truthfully thought I would never heal, and that this year would find me still mired in grief. Then my mom encouraged me to visit the Furry Friends shelter.

“I went in feeling sadder than I’ve ever felt and then, miraculously, I found a kitty who, like me, also needed a friend. When I saw Misty huddled in the corner and labeled ‘independent and sweet,’ I didn’t quite know what to expect. But looking at her reminded me of Pumpkin with her tortie colors. She was also the only shy one who licked my hand and didn’t bite when I went over to pick her up and place her on my lap.

“While she’s still shy and occasionally hides, Misty has more ‘attitude’ than any cat I’ve had, plus she’s insanely sweet! She’s got a strong voice, but doesn’t ask for much, and is perfectly content just staying in my room, although I wish she’d explore the rest of the house. She loves cuddling up in my arms and licking and biting my arm. She also loves lying on her back and enjoys sitting outside on my rooftop, basking in the sun just as Pumpkin did.

“Adopting Misty was truly the best thing to come from a tragedy one can’t control. You wouldn’t expect the kind of companion that comes from just a glimpse of their personality at the shelter, and getting a shy cat might surprise you!  Misty is now in her fur-ever home, and I’ll be happy to have her and love her for as many years as we share together.
