Mac and Carl and Sara and Mike: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“Knowing we wanted two cats, Mike and I attended a Furry Friends adoption event at PetSmart,” says Sara. “After speaking to a volunteer and the foster mom of four tabbies, we picked up Mac and Carl. They were so happy to be in our arms, very affectionate, purring and snuggling away. Also, their fur was the softest we’d ever felt. We couldn’t imagine finding any sweeter cats.

“When we first brought them home, Mac was the braver one and slowly explored the place while Carl spent the first day hunkered down behind his new cat tree and under a bookcase. But they very quickly warmed up to living here, and they love meeting new people.

“They’ve brought so much joy – and also some chaos -- into our lives. They’re the best of friends and sometimes the biggest of enemies. They love snuggling together and grooming each other. Other times, when they’re feeling scrappy, one will start a fight with the other. These fights are usually silent and comical as they pounce and swat at each other without a single hiss or growl.

“We often cat sit a senior cat, and when all three first met, the senior cat was slightly unsure about the twosome’s kitten energy. But Mac and Carl love humans and cats alike, and are very good at giving other cats space if they want it. Now, whenever they’re with the senior cat, the three of them get along fairly well.

“Both kitties love playing with springs and mice toys, but Da Fish, Da Octopus and Da Bird are Mac’s absolute favorites, while Carl’s favorite toy is ‘cat dancer,’ a wire with cardboard on the end of it. For some reason they both LOVE socks. We’ve caught them pulling clean socks out of the dresser drawer, retrieving dirty socks from the hamper and leaving random socks in the most unexpected places. We also regularly find one or both of them sitting in the kitchen sink when the water’s running and going into the shower while it’s on!

“We joke that Mac and Carl are almost TOO cuddly! Carl has decided that he’s a lap cat and likes snuggling on our laps whenever possible. He also jumps into our arms from a coffee table (or similar height surface). Mac isn’t quite as bold when it comes to jumping into our arms, but he regularly leans against us with his paws outstretched until we pick him up. Both cats love to give hugs, putting one front paw on either side of our necks while purring away. Anyone who’s ever met them absolutely adores them because of how friendly and snuggly they are.

“Not surprisingly, they love to sleep on the bed with us all night.”
