Lure and Andrea Kay: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I’ve had cats for the last 14 years and currently have a male cat named Molly,” says Andrea.

“After viewing various kitties on the Furry Friends website, I visited the shelter, where I met Lure. He seemed so sad and dejected. All you could see of him in the back of the cage were his eyes: he looked miserable. While the other cats appeared to be alert and semi-comfortable, Lure wouldn’t make eye contact or come to you.

“I know that black cats, sadly, tend to be adopted less, and combined with his behavior, I really worried about what would happen to him. Because I myself went through foster care between the ages of 8 and 10, I know what it’s like to feel vulnerable and scared. I felt I had the right life experience and home to support Lure, and believed that we’d be a good fit to bring him out of his shell and give him a safe, happy life.

“Lure’s adjustment to living here was gradual. In the beginning, we left him alone as much as possible, let him hide in laundry baskets, under tables and behind furniture, and never forced him out. After a month, he began emerging more and more although he still hid whenever people came over.

“Needless to say, it’s worked out wonderfully! Molly not only ‘trained’ Lure and taught him how to be a cat, they’re the best of friends. As for Lure: he’s such a social and happy cat now, supremely smart, and the biggest love bug you’ve ever seen. He’s the missing piece of our family puzzle. He plays with Molly and keeps him young. He ‘helps’ my boyfriend make the bed every morning by playing underneath the sheets as they’re laid down. He snuggles all day and is so chatty -- he literally never stops ‘meow-talking’ to you. We couldn’t have asked for a better cat.

“Lure loves to play on the stairs. We throw little sushi balls up the stairs and he runs up and down catching them. He also loves to play under the sheets and hang from things, ranging from tables to cat towers. He not only LOVES to be snuggled, he will actually force his way in for pets and cuddles, is a true ‘velcro’ cat and needs attention 24/7.

“One of his most endearing habits is that he’s a bit clumsy, often falling off the objects he’s holding onto!”
