Lucretia, Nami and Obi and Julianna Kropla and Nat Ramsey: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“While I came from a dog family, Nat came from a cat family,” Julianna says.
“Together we had an elderly cat, Charles, a former street cat, before deciding that he would do well with a friend. I had always wanted a black cat growing up, and when I found Lucretia on the Furry Friends website, I was enamored by how sweet and shy she looked in her photo. I especially loved her eyes and truly felt that she was ‘my’ cat. We met her at her foster home and promptly adopted her.
“Charles passed in November of 2025, and Lucretia began showing signs of loneliness, so we attended an adoption event at PetSmart to see if there was a cat who could help. Nami came right over to us and it was love at first pet! We weren’t sure about adopting a tabby that looked so much like Charles, but we couldn’t say ‘no’ as she greeted us much like he did: she went belly up, and we knew that she would come home with us.
“She and Lucretia are classic sisters, cuddling one minute and bapping at each other the next. We weren’t originally looking for another cat, but I saw Obi on the Facebook page and fell in love quickly. Given that Charles was a scruffy little guy who also had a funky ear, Obi clicked right in, and has been the best addition to our family. Different from the two girls and from Charles, he’s very vocal and loves to cuddle. I can’t believe just how sweet he is!
“Whereas Lucretia took three days to adjust to living here, Nami hopped right out and took the house as her own, while Obi also adjusted very quickly. I’m so happy we decided to have cats rather than dogs (for the time being) since they’re independent but still very affectionate. The girls aren’t incredibly cuddly or chatty, but they do love some morning cuddles, and Obi is a clinger! He follows us everywhere and it’s so sweet. Being so vocal, it’s quite funny to have a cat ‘talking’ to you as if it’s a normal conversation.
“All of the cats are getting along wonderfully! We discovered that Obi loves to groom Lucretia and Nami (he also tries to ‘groom’ us, but we don’t have fur, so it’s hard … lol), and the girls allow it when they’re feeling especially loving and sleepy. It’s very touching to see, and I imagine this is something Obi did with other cats in his previous situation.
“The girls like mice. I know cats see colors differently, but we notice that Nami loves pale blue and Lucretia loves green, so they only play with those colored toys. Obi enjoys playing with feather wand toys, that is, when he’s not lounging around or sleeping.
“Nami likes chin scratches the most, but she doesn’t like being cuddled at all. She’s our independent queen! Lucretia loves pets, but only cuddles at specific times and mostly with me (unless she’s feeling especially nice to Nat). Obi cuddles 24/7. If we’re sitting, he’s on us.
