Scallywag and Jenny McGinnis: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“Having always had cats in the past, I knew it was time to welcome another one into my home,” says Jenny. “I was looking for a black cat with a fluffy tail, and when I saw then named Coolio on the Furry Friends website, he seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
“I drove to Vancouver from Portland to meet him during Furry Friends’ adoption event at PetSmart. He came right up to me and started rubbing against my hand, and it was love at first sight. Scallywag seemed right at home pretty much immediately. He was and still is a very curious boy, so once he had a look around, he decided he was happy with his new home.
“He is the love of my life and brings me so much joy. He also provided me with a lot of comfort during a very difficult time. We go hiking together and he loves riding in his backpack to the park -- which is a wonderful way to make new friends! It brings people a lot of joy to see my sweet adventure cat out and about.
“Scallywag loves his stuffed alligator, bumblebee, snail and bird toys. As with most cats, his favorite toys are not really toys: a scrap of ribbon, my chapstick and other small objects he finds around the house. He also loves to be petted and cuddled as long as he’s not in playtime mode!
“He has the most endearing habits that always make me smile. He’s my little shadow, following me everywhere I go, even curling up in the bathroom sink while I shower. Whenever I get home after being out, he runs to greet me at the door with his tail poofed up and rubs against me before flopping on the ground to be petted. We also enjoy popcorn together at night. I throw him a kernel and we play fetch with it for awhile before he finally eats it. He also looooves his window perch and spends a majority of the day looking out on the street -- so much so that parts of his fur have been bleached from the sun! When he wants to play, he’ll run up and tap me on the leg until I pay attention to him.
“At night, Scallywag sleeps at my feet for the most part, but comes up to sleep in my arms for awhile in the early morning. Sometimes he decides he wants to play in the middle of the night or see what’s going on outside from his window perch.”
