Loki and Keely Walker: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I’ve had numerous cats in the past, many I rescued myself and ensured that they all went to amazing homes,” says Keely. “But as for me personally, I’ve had five.
“After viewing various photos on the Furry Friends website and applying to adopt one particular cat, I was notified about an adoption event at PetSmart. I went there not expecting to walk out with a cat until I interacted with Loki (then called Luke). He was very shy for the first few minutes and was tucked away in a corner. When I reached out my hand to let him smell me, he came out of his cage, immediately stretched up towards me, let me pick him up and just continuously purred. That’s when I knew I had to take him home with me.
“In changing his name from Luke to Loki, I kept it as close to his original name as I could, but felt Loki fit him better because of his personality. Needless to say, he had no problem adjusting to living with me and was immediately comfortable here.
“Loki’s affected my life for the better. After losing my cat of 13 years to FIP, I was extremely depressed. I wasn’t eating, I couldn’t get out of bed, I refused to talk to anyone, and I didn’t feel like anything mattered anymore. My fiancé suggested that getting another cat might be a good idea since I wasn’t used to being alone, and I was extremely hesitant at first. But attending that adoption event and deciding to take Loki home was the best decision I made, and I don’t regret it. Loki is the sweetest and most affectionate cat I’ve ever had. He’s always waiting by the door for me to get home and pick him up. Ever since adopting him, my mental state has improved dramatically.
“As for playing with toys? He LOVES playing with my clean socks and then hiding them forever! And he constantly wants affection. If I don’t pet him, he’ll ‘make’ me pet him. One of Loki’s most endearing habits is that when he’s really happy or very excited, he drools everywhere.
“Loki has slept in bed with me every night since I adopted him. Whether it’s on my chest, curled up on my back, tucked under my armpit or my neck, he HAS to sleep with me. He refuses to lie in my bed until I do!”
