Junie and Juno and Sarah Bonk-Brown: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I’ve had cats for many years and work professionally with them through my pet sitting business,” Sarah says.

“After losing my 22-year-old orange female tabby, Chai, I found Junie through PetFinder while searching for another orange female tabby. When I arrived at Junie’s foster home, I did a double take because there was another orange female tabby, Juno. The moment I put Junie in the carrier, Juno jumped right on top trying to get in! I felt guilty only taking one but I was currently fostering another kitten that was ultimately re-homed because she did better as a single cat.

“Since I couldn’t stop thinking about Juno, I reached back out to Juno’s foster and officially adopted her on Christmas Eve. Reuniting them was such a special moment: they were so happy to be back together. Their adjustment to my home was thoughtful and gradual, but overall very smooth. They’ve brought so much joy, comfort and personality into my life. There’s always something going on with them, whether it’s playtime, their little quirks or just their sweet moments together.

“They get along well with my other orange female tabby, Carina, adopted on Valentine’s Day, and it’s been really special watching the three of them interact and grow together. While all three love to play, Junie and Juno definitely have their favorites. Junie is obsessed with her little mice toys: she’s so smart, she brings them back when I toss them, like a little game of fetch. Juno is all about her glow-in-the-dark plastic cat springs and carries them around in her mouth. The three kitties love to play fight, chase each other, snuggle and groom one another.

“Junie and Carina both love cuddles. Junie especially enjoys snuggling, but if she’s overstimulated, she becomes a playful ‘love nipper.’ Juno prefers affection on her own terms. Although she enjoys pets, she’s not much of a snuggler yet, and I’m trying to make her feel more comfortable with being held. Both Junie and Juno love watching birds and other critters moving outside, and never say ‘no’ to their purr pops. While Junie is more outgoing and expressive, Juno is more laid back, but just as sweet. They purr easily, are very curious, and their fun little personalities make me smile every day.

“Carina, being younger and smaller, is constantly learning from them, and Junie and Juno are very gentle with her. That said, Carina is mighty: she’s often the instigator and can absolutely hold her own, which makes it hilarious to watch. In many ways, she runs the house and has taken on the role of the little ‘alpha!’

“They’re definitely nocturnal, but when they finally settle down, usually around 5 AM, they all come to bed with me. They love their felted igloos from Mud Bay, which I keep on my bed, so they’ll curl up in those while still staying close.”
