Finnegan and Laura B.: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“After seeing a post from Finnegan’s foster mom on Facebook, I emailed and asked about him and his personality,” says Laura. “Then named Boo, something about his picture pulled at my heart, and he seemed like a perfect fit for our family.
“When she mentioned an adoption event was being held over the weekend at PetSmart, I was so afraid he would be adopted before I could make the trek down to Vancouver (we are north of Seattle) that I sent in an adoption application immediately. The next day, I drove four hours in a torrential downpour to meet him at the start of the event. This adorable little guy was handed to me, and I saw that he had curly fur on his belly and a big snaggletooth. I just loved him. Then we drove back home in the pouring rain where I introduced him to my family, and it’s been wonderful ever since!
“Finnegan took about 4 days to come out of the bathroom, explore the rest of the house and engage with my two loud kids. He’s brought so much joy into our home. The kids delight in him and draw portraits of him constantly that are taped up all over the house. He helps me slow down and not work too much. My mom visits often, bringing her rowdy cavapoo, and they get along famously.
“While Finnegan loves kicker toys, feather wands, cat springs and hair ties, my kids love making him leap through the air! The funniest thing about him is that he wiggles his butt when he’s ‘hunting’ a toy before he runs and pounces on it. At the right time of day, he’s very cuddly. In the afternoon or evening, he’ll often go belly up and let you rub him all over, including his tummy, his ears and his paws. But when he’s focused intently on watching the birds outside, he doesn’t want to be cuddled.
“One of his other cute quirks is how much he loves riding on our shoulders! We can be doing the dishes, cooking or vacuuming, and out of nowhere, he’ll leap through the air onto our shoulders and remain there very happily. As for his sleeping arrangements: he doesn’t have a specific spot. It varies to include my bed, the floor and the kids’ beds.”
