Shelly Gallegos : Volunteer Spotlight
“I have been volunteering with Furry Friends since September of 2024,” Shelly says.
“I saw a post asking for Sunday morning volunteers. I don’t usually have any plans at that time and because I love cats, I responded to the post. The happy result: I spend two hours every Sunday helping clean the cat rooms, provide the cats with fresh food and water and then cuddle with them. Without question, my favorite part about volunteering is cuddling with the kitties!
“My greatest difficulty, on the other hand, is the sadness I feel whenever one has to be put down. My proudest moments are when my fellow volunteers call me a cat whisperer! As to why I give back? Quite simply, because I love animals and want to help wherever I can.
“Outside of Furry Friends, I work as an estimator at Paul Davis Restoration. At home, we have four pets: Marco, an 11-year-old cat, Luna, a 10-year-old cat, Izzy, an 8-year-old ‘princess’ dog, and Charlie, our 1-year-old crazy puppy.
“As for my various interests and hobbies: I love to read thriller books, crochet and paint by numbers.”
