Rosemary Hegedus: Volunteer Spotlight

“I am a retired math teacher who moved to Washington from Las Vegas in 2017 after my husband passed to be closer to my three amazing sons and their families,” says Rosemary. “My puggle moved up here with me, and he was my ‘therapy’ dog.

“I’ve been volunteering as a foster mom for Furry Friends since June, when I sold my RV and decided to stay put for awhile. I took care of a friend’s kittens after a predator killed their mother and three babies, and fell in love with them. I was able to keep one, but always wanted more. Fostering these fur babies is truly a blessing. They keep me young and hopping!

“I’ve had multiple pets over the years -- never a dull moment with kids, rats, hamsters, cats and dogs! Not to mention having been a volunteer all of my adult life, including running children’s sports and holding various school positions. More recently, I was the volunteer secretary for the Vancouver Elks Lodge for two wonderful years, and I’m now the volunteer treasurer for the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) in Vancouver.

“Just for fun: I love and take part in social ballroom and country dancing about four times a week with my dance group and friends. I also love all sports, and given that my three grandsons are very active in high school sports, I attend their games and support them whenever possible.”
