Darrin Fuller: Volunteer Spotlight

“I have been volunteering with Furry Friends for two months now,” says Darrin. “My daughter shared with me that the Milky & Coco’s Kit-Tea Café was opening in Vancouver, and since I was looking for a volunteer opportunity, I reached out immediately.

“Working there for two hours each week, I clean out the cats’ litter boxes, feed them, fill their water bowls, sanitize the place and, best of all, share the love!

“My favorite parts about volunteering are watching how excited people become when they spend time with the kitties and seeing when so many cats and kittens get adopted.

“Currently retired and particularly proud of having raised two wonderful children, I’ve always had cats, and my last one passed away last summer at the age of 18. As for why I give back: it’s a way for me to get a ‘kitty fix.’ These felines need the help and I have the time, so it’s perfect.

“Among the issues I’m especially passionate about are climate change, the environment, animals, family and politics. And while I don’t presently have any pets at home, I’m certain that I’ll be adopting from Furry Friends sometime soon.

“Just for fun: I love painting watercolors, crocheting, doing macramé, gardening, playing the guitar and playing pickleball.”
