Amber Koski: Volunteer Spotlight

“I’ve been volunteering with Furry Friends since August,” Amber says. “I discovered FF via social media as I’m involved in a number of animal rescues in WA and OR. Then I moved to the neighborhood, near the Halfway House, making it easy to volunteer and support such a great cause.  

“I have one regular two-hour shift a week on Mondays with the amazing shift lead, Chris. I try to pick up shifts when others need coverage, and I joined the Thursday morning shift several weeks ago: so wonderful meeting new people! My work involves cleaning and providing care for the cats. I especially love Calvin and Henry, two long-time residents.

“My favorite part about volunteering is seeing all of the amazing cats, enjoying their cuddles and getting to know their unique personalities. I also love working with the other volunteers and hearing about their lives and interests. On the other hand, my greatest challenge is wanting to adopt all of the kitties!

“I’m not currently working which frees me up to support Furry Friends, and I love sharing the adoptable kitties on my IG acct softlanding_foster. As to why I give back: I’ve always had a deep love for animals and advocating for them. I give my time to these sweet creatures because they deserve all of the love the world has to offer.

“I’m particularly passionate about reducing the stray animal population and providing affordable vet care access to people so that they and their pets can stay together. Animal welfare is deeply connected to human welfare. 
“Just for fun: I LOVE jumping off cliffs -- no joke. I went BASE jumping in Moab, UT last year, and also did a canyon Rope Swing. So cool!”
