Winston and Destiny Guzman: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I have been a ‘crazy cat lady’ since the day I was born,” Destiny laughs. “In August 2020, I adopted my soul cat, truly a daughter in my eyes.
“In November 2022, she gave birth to six kittens and I became a ‘grandma.’ I kept one of the male kittens and encouraged various family members and friends to adopt the others. While she tolerates her son, she exhibits many of my traits: low temper and high annoyance.
“I sensed my ‘grandson’ was feeling somewhat bored and perhaps even lonely. In September 2025, I saw a Furry Friends Facebook post for an adoption event at PetSmart and thought it was the perfect opportunity to find a new addition to my kitty family. I visited all of the cats and one, in particular, caught my attention: a little black kitten who rolled over as soon as he saw me. He let me rub his belly and then played with me. Although I knew my other cats would be a little standoffish, he seemed up for the challenge. I adopted him that day and brought him home.
“He was adopted as Ricky, which was cute, but I renamed him Winston which fits his big personality much better. The other two cats were very interested in him, perhaps even angry at first, but after a week, the boys became best friends. My ‘girl’ is still annoyed. Nonetheless, Winston has brought so much joy into the household as only a kitten can do.
“He’s grown big and wide in such a short time, but he loves to play and run around the house. He sits at the fish tank and watches the fish so raptly, it’s as though his favorite TV show is on! My favorite bonding moments with Winston are when I wake up in the morning to use the bathroom. He insists on ‘uppies’ and cuddles first, with breakfast coming second.”
