Sammy and the Leggs: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“My husband Jason and I have both had cats since we were kids,” Malyssa says.
“After one of our kitties died in 2004, we finally decided it was time to give our hearts to a new shelter kitty. Since my cousin had used the Furry Friends website to adopt one of her kitties, I went onto it myself and noticed Sammy, then called Theo, whose adoption fee was $0!
“I emailed them immediately to verify this because he checked all of our boxes. Not to mention the fact that he was adorable. Apparently, he had been returned several times for being bullied by other cats in the home. We had to get him!
“Sammy’s adjustment to living here was gradual. Our older cat didn’t really want to play with him, and he turned out to be quite a ‘talker.’ We couldn’t believe how much he talked. We created his own space for him, allowed him out to visit and we visited him. The happy result: he warmed right up to us.
“Both Jason and I are so in love with him! He’s a sweet and funny snuggle bug, who LOVES being cuddled and petted, and we couldn’t imagine not having him. Sammy likes our older cat and still wants to play with her. Occasionally, she’ll give in to him, but when she lets him know that it’s not the time, he’ll walk away and come to get love from one of us.
“Sammy not only loves to play fetch, he adores anything that makes noise. He also likes playing with the cat dancer toys and climbing and exploring our house. Among his more endearing habits is how much he loves to talk to us. When he first wakes up, he has a raspy meow: it’s so cute. He likes being in the bathroom when I shower. Plus, he’s silly!
“At night, he usually sleeps in bed with us, curled on my legs, or in his own cozy cat bed.”
