Pineapple, Leia and Ash and Kristy Bautista: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I had cats when I was a child,” Kristy says. “And now, my two sons, aged 8 and 11, and I have three!”
“After visiting the Furry Friends website and viewing the various kitties, we went to the shelter where we first met Pineapple. I simply had to have her with her ‘unique’ -- to say the least -- personality. We then attended an adoption event at PetSmart and adopted both Leia and Ash.
“I chose Pineapple because she reminds me of myself … One of my sons chose Leia, who’s the sweetest, cuddliest and most loving cat, while my other son chose Ash because he was the last of his litter mates to be adopted. While Pineapple took over 3 months to fully adjust to living with us, both Leia and Ash adjusted in a matter of weeks.
“Pineapple helps fill our lives in such a positive way because of her special attitude and different personality. She also helps one of my sons feel better on his bad days. Leia helps all of the cats blend together, but she mostly helps my two sons and me when she knows something’s wrong because she’s right there purring. Shy Ash, on the other hand, is still finding his own personality.
“All three cats LOVE playing with wand toys, but chasing after the laser’s red dot is truly their favorite pastime! As for being petted and cuddled: Pineapple prefers being petted on her own terms and rarely cuddles, but she’ll permit it if you approach her for short periods. Her idea of cuddling is lying with one of my sons on his bed. Leia enjoys lying on top of me and pushing the phone out of my hand for cuddles, while Ash isn’t too cuddly yet.
“What I find especially endearing about Pineapple is that she plays hide and seek with my 11-year-old son, and it makes me happy to see both of them happy. One of Leia’s cutest quirks is that she meows ‘hello’ late at night and early in the morning. When I reply to her with ‘hello,’ ‘hello,’ ‘hello,’ she replies with her own meow ‘hello’ (it sounds as if she’s actually saying ‘hello’), looking for pets.
“At night, all three cats sleep in their cat tree, in their window bed/perches or in our beds. Sometimes Leia lies next to my bed on the floor, so that when I sit up, she’s right there.”
