Ozai and Iroh and the Bumps: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“We have adopted several cats in the past, most of them from Furry Friends,” says Tina.

“Since we wanted a kitten to play with Azula, our 16-month-old cat, we attended a Furry Friends adoption event at PetSmart. There we met Mango. He had such beautiful coloring, and when he snuggled right into my neck as soon as I picked him up, I knew he was the one. His foster mom told me that he was part of a bonded pair, but we were very reluctant to adopt two cats. We then looked at another cat, a female, but she was reticent and didn’t want to be held. Finally, after much debate, we decided to adopt both Mango and his brother Papaya.

“We renamed Mango Ozai and Papaya Iroh after the Fire Nation Lords of ‘The Last Avatar,’ which was a theme in our home to go with Azula’s name. Their adjustment to living here was immediate. I think having the two of them together truly helped. And although Azula wasn’t happy at first, by the third day, she adjusted and was very friendly. Now, she absolutely loves them! She cuddles with them, grooms them, plays with them and sleeps with them.

“Ozai has attached himself to me, following me around and either lying in our bed on the pillow next to my head or directly on my neck. Iroh has attached himself to my husband and is always lying on my husband’s shorts close to him on the couch so that he can pet him. Ozai not only loves to cuddle, he also loves shoulders, jumping up onto them every chance he gets. Iroh prefers being petted when it’s his idea.

“Both brothers love playing with their stuffed mice and chasing feathers on a stick. They also love chasing and wrestling with their sister. Then, at night, they sleep in the La-Z-Boy easy chair with Azula.”
