Margaret and the Shusters: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“I have always had cats in the past,” says Michelle. “My husband, Scott, and I knew that our resident three-year-old male cat needed a playmate capable of matching his energy level. And soon, we were scouring the Furry Friends website for the perfect match.
“We met Margaret, whose original name was Troll, at a Furry Friends adoption event at PetSmart and chose her because she seemed so adorably energetic. Fortunately, her adjustment to living in our home was immediate. She’s been a great addition, and is not only extremely active, she’s been keeping our other, younger cats more active as well. Ironically, our older male cat – the one we thought needed a playmate -- tolerates her as long as she keeps her distance!
“Scott has always said that the other cats like me more, but Margaret has definitely become ‘his’ cat and she LOVES her ‘daddy time.’ The younger cats love playing with her, and believe it or not, she actually tries to jump on their backs and ride them! They also enjoy chasing each other around the house.
“Margaret loves all kinds of toys as well as two play tunnels that she loves. And because she has so much energy, we play fetch at night to wear her out. As far as affection, it’s on her terms -- she can be sweet and cuddly or she can cling to your arm and give you love nibbles. She’s very expressive with her ears and can turn them every which way. She’s also a little klutzy. Example: she’s fallen into the toilet several times!
“At night, Margaret takes turns sleeping in various areas including on Scott, in her cat bed, on top of the closet, in a cat bubble and on top of a cat tower.”
