Josie and Sammy and Donna Ouellet : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“When I returned from traveling while my daughter kept my cat Max, he seemed lonely when I took him home, so I decided to get him a playmate,” says Donna. “Because he’s a tuxedo, I thought I’d get another tuxedo. I found several on the Furry Friends website and went in to meet them. They were so ‘cat like’, indifferent and aloof. But then a little fluffball named Neptune (now Josie) came running toward me full of spunk and personality and it was love immediately.
“Poor Neptune had been rescued from a hoarding situation. Skin and bones at a mere 4 pounds, missing most of her fur, she suffered from ear infections, flea anemia, and was so sickly that no one thought she could possibly survive. But survive she did. I brought her home, and she and Max became fast friends. Now she is a bit on the plump side with so much fur I brush her and vacuum every day to keep up!
”Early on, she established her spot on the recliner, draping herself half on the seat and half over the arm, and she can usually be found there if nothing else is going on. She likes to sleep on my hair, or wrapped around my head. I’m guessing I’m her mother figure? She’s fussy about food and turns her nose up at treats. Never try to pick her up or approach her as if you might. When she’s ready, though, she’ll sit next to me on the couch and literally flop down for pets and love. She has a tiny squeaky voice but she’s large in personality. I didn’t know what a treasure I’d found that day!
“As a volunteer for Furry Friends, I usually feel an uncontrollable urge to bring home all of the cats. One in particular, Sammy, just tugged at my heart. He’d been at the shelter for some time, and I finally asked if I could foster him. He’s a big boy, but gentle as can be and full of love. His favorite toys are small, stuffed gray mice that are very lifelike. He spends time chasing, flipping and looking for them, and I can tell by his meow that’s he’s got a Mousie in his mouth. Naturally, after he’d been with me for a few months, and FF asked if I’d like to adopt him, there was only one answer: YES.
"This guy is a mobile package of love. He’ll just show up next to me on the couch and lie down, purring, and so happy. The nice thing is that he and Josie play like crazy. They wrestle, chase and tease each other every morning until they are tired. At night, Max, Josie and Sammy all sleep on my bed in their certain spots which is so cute. My house is a joyful, furry chaotic cat house and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
