Boris and Stan Sessions: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I have had several cats in the past,” says Stan. “The only ones who lived very long were strictly indoors, either by my choice or theirs. My adopted cat’s original name was Tommy, but I changed it to Boris since it seemed more fitting (he’s a bruiser, jet black with bright yellow eyes -- almost panther-like). My younger sister Annie Kiely, who volunteers at Furry Friends, told me about him, and when I saw him at the shelter, I knew that he was the right cat for me: alert, friendly, confident and easygoing.

“Boris not only adjusted quickly to his new home, he fit into my life perfectly. He’s a laid back dude, and luckily he likes hanging out with people. Five of my siblings live within 20 minutes of me, and most of their cats were adopted from Furry Friends, and had already spent some time outdoors.

“While Boris’s favorite toy is a laser pointer, he plays with some of his other toys now and then (e.g. stuffed mice and birds), and he really likes to bat at a plastic bird on a stick. He also loves sitting at a window, watching the birds at the bird feeder. He likes lying with me on the floor, and seems to enjoy having me stroke the sides of his face and pet him on his head and body. He purrs, but not loudly, and although he doesn’t particularly like being picked up or held, he tolerates it.

“Occasionally, he likes to ‘stalk’ my arm and hand as they dangle from my easy chair, leaping at it, wrapping his arms around my arm, ‘biting’ my hand and even ‘disemboweling’ my arm with his hind legs! But he’s very gentle when he does this, never uses his claws, and responds immediately if I tell him he’s being too rough. Like most cats, he has his ‘zoomies,’ especially in the morning.

“He often stays downstairs when I go to bed, but he eventually shows up because I always find him asleep on his mat on the bed near the foot of my bed. He’s usually up by 6 or 6:30 and tries to wake me with a sweet little meow. If I ignore him, he’ll climb on the headboard and gently place both paws on the top of my head and push gently. By now, though, he lets me sleep until I’m ready to get up.

“This adoption is going very well, and I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully Boris feels the same. I am a lucky man and he is a lucky cat. Thank you for helping me find a ‘cool dude’ who’s now my feline housemate.”
