Biscotti and Melanie Logue: Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“My fiance and I currently have two cats, 10-year-old Zara and 5-year-old Mochi,” says Melanie. “Zara likes to relax and only plays on her terms, but Mochi loves chasing her around (to Zara’s dismay), so getting another cat has always been in the cards.
“Fortunately, I found Furry Friends, and after browsing through the photos of multiple available cats on their website, I saw a 5-year-old kitty named Wesley with only one eye. According to his profile, he had been found as a stray and his other eye had just been removed due to an injury. I sent the post to my fiance, saying, ‘Doesn’t this look like Zara? I want to meet him!’ That night I emailed Furry Friends asking if Wesley was good with other cats, and in the morning, Tanika emailed back in the affirmative, saying he was a very chill, calm cat. We set up a time to meet him that day.
“Although he was sitting under a cat tree in the corner when we arrived at the shelter, as soon as he saw us, he came over to greet us and nudged us with his head. We sat with him for 5-10 minutes while he purred and rubbed on us and then he calmly returned to his spot under the cat tree. I couldn’t believe how sweet he was, given that he had just had one eye removed, and since he looked so much like Zara, we adopted him and brought him home.
“We changed his name to Biscotti because his big feet look like biscotti! Now he literally lives like a king in his castle. There’s a cat tree near the window, and he not only loves running up it and jumping onto the highest perch, he loves sleeping on it as well. He took to our home immediately, and while he truly is a very calm cat, he’s brought out the more playful side of Zara and Mochi. For her part, Zara gets a break from them both when she wants and allows Biscotti and Mochi to continue playing without her.
“Biscotti has so many wonderfully endearing features that delight my fiance and me. Throughout the night, he walks up and lies on our chests and nudges his head into our faces in the gentlest, most loving way. He purrs instantly the moment one of us pets him. He makes the cutest sounds and smallest ‘meows.’ He has the funniest little run that keeps us laughing. He loves to play in his toy corner and rub his head on the cat toy bin -- probably because of the catnip toys that he also loves.
“He loves mealtime and eats beside Mochi every morning, finishes his wet food, then sits in front of her until she’s done and finishes her food. He enjoys flopping over and rolling around – and is just the best cat! He’s helped heal a small part of me that feels sad whenever I see a cat without a home. I can't save them all, but I did save our Biscotti, and he will know love, safety and comfort for the rest of his life. He’s part of our family and so dearly loved. He brings so much joy to our home.”
