Barnabas and the Kings : Furry Friends Fur-Ever
“Far from being our first kitty, Barnabas Collins, whose original name was Sonny, is our fourth,” Angelique eagerly admits. “He joins our other three kitties, Isaac and Pogo, who are the oldest at 14, and then Pumpkin, who is 2.
“I chose him at the shelter because when I picked him up, he immediately snuggled down. I knew then and there that he was the right little ‘man’ for our family. His adjustment to our home was gradual. He spent the first few days separated from the rest of the animals (both cats and dogs), before being introduced to them one by one.
“Barnabas has made Pumpkin so happy – he’s most definitely Pumpkin’s ‘baby!’ Isaac and Pogo, the older cats, seem rather amused by it all, but overall, they’re fine. As for my husband and me: we really love him. He’s been such a perfect addition to our household.
“What’s particularly endearing about Barnabas is that he’s so open to the other animals. He not only gets along wonderfully with them, he sleeps with all of them, including the dogs. Agile and athletic, he especially enjoys playing with string toys and chasing after the laser light.
“While he loves being petted and cuddled, he’s a ‘teenager’ at the moment, and so he seeks out affection on his terms. Despite the fact that he definitely wants to do his own thing, he’s been known to ‘scream down’ the hallway until he finds me. He’s also completely enthralled with and fascinated by the fish tank. And one of his most endearing habits is that he likes to ‘pat’ the fish through the glass.
“Before Barnabas arrived, the other cats usually slept in bed with us. But now, all four of them make a point of sleeping on me!”
