Jess Mitchell : Volunteer Spotlight

“I have been volunteering as a foster with Furry Friends since December 2025,” Jess says. “I got involved because I wanted to be a foster for a small organization, and I thought all of the cats at Furry Friends were ADORABLE!

“While I’m currently fostering only one cat, my favorite part of being a foster is having the chance to see shy cats who didn’t mesh with shelter life blossom completely and become personality-filled ‘goofballs’ in a calm home environment. I LOVE it!
“Naturally, my biggest challenge is saying goodbye to fosters once they’ve been adopted. My proudest moments, on the other hand, are connecting with the perfect people and having them adopt my fosters via Facebook. As to why I give back: I like cats, and I appreciate what shelters do.

“As to the issues I’m most passionate about: environmentalism, human rights, democracy and spaying and neutering your pets! And speaking of pets, at home, I have a super snow bell albino leopard gecko named Newport. Outside of Furry Friends, I work at a record store.

“Among my various interests are making stained glass and pottery, cooking, baking and playing softball with RCSA.”
