Shadow and the Chownings: Furry Friends Fur-Ever

“I have had cats since childhood,” says Lynne. “Two of them lived in an RV with my husband and me as we worked and travelled through various national parks. They had their own netted ‘cat tunnel’ outside when we parked, and they were extremely popular.with everyone around.

“We have two tuxedos now, not from FF, although I considered adopting a kitten to keep our frisky two-year-old entertained and active. Then, one morning a foster mom brought an overburdened mama cat and her many kittens to the Halfway House during my Monday shift … and it was ‘love at first mew.’ I held out my hand, sight unseen, said,  ‘hand me the smallest female,’ and she crawled up on my shoulder for the first time.

“Since they were still nursing, mama and babies went to Heather Finley’s foster home. Named the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ litter, ‘my’ kitten was called Riley, and I was fortunate enough to watch her grow and change through Heather’s sweet videos.

“Then she came home to big brother Boots and young Dora the Explorer who welcomed her with open paws and a few hisses. I named her Shadow because of her being a grey tuxedo. The care she was given in her foster home created the sweetest and best-tempered cat ever! She not only adjusted to her new house immediately, she and Boots constantly groom each other now and all three kitties enjoy doing daily zoomies together.

“Everything is a toy in Shadow’s world. She is long, lanky and LARGE, not especially agile, and has left some broken glass in her trail, but we love her dearly. Happily for us, she sleeps somewhere in our bed every night.”
